Overview

“Bluebirds sing and I will listen. I feel transformed when I am in the presence of the beautiful bluebird. No one knows and no one can understand my world. I think that the birds will tell my story.” ~ Alma

The story of who Alma was intrigued Patsy from the moment she laid eyes on Alma’s beautiful bird book. Alma’s hand painted birds filled the pages of an old metal ring binder and told far more of a story than Alma ever could. Each bird Alma had painted and sketched revealed a detail of who Alma was and gave a glimpse into Alma’s life. Bird by bird Alma is revealed, and we begin to understand how she found such solace in her birds.

“With her simple thoughts and my simple additions Alma’s Story will encourage someone who is not so much like everyone else.   Perhaps her pictures will bring a gentle, wistful feeling to a quiet, thoughtful viewer. Perhaps, just maybe, the quilt flowers will inspire and bring equanimity in the face of a world which seems out of control at times. Through her flowers and her birds she may have had a far better understanding of who God is than those who seem to have all the answers.”—Patsy Levang, author

There was only the bird book to tell her story—Alma’s story.  But she left it as unfinished as her life seemed to be.  For author Patsy Levang Alma’s life and legacy should not be forgotten; it must be told.  And so finally, two decades after Alma’s passing, her story in phrases she composed, her story in pieces of artwork she created, and her story in the memories of those who knew her will be shared to all with the release of The Bird Book.
